The Foundation of High-Yield Cauliflower
Cauliflower is one of the most rewarding yet sensitive crops to grow. To achieve premium quality and high yield, precision in every step is crucial.
1. Soil Preparation and pH Balance
Cauliflower thrives in well-drained, loamy soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0. Before planting, ensure the soil is rich in organic matter. We recommend adding 20-25 tonnes of well-rotted FYM (Farm Yard Manure) per hectare.
2. Seed Selection and Treatment
Always opt for certified hybrid seeds suited for your local climate. Treat seeds with Thiram (2g/kg seed) to prevent soil-borne diseases. Early varieties like Pusa Katki or mid-season ones like Pusa Sharad can be chosen based on your planting window.
3. Nursery Management
Raise seedlings in raised beds. Seedlings are usually ready for transplanting within 25-30 days when they have 4-5 true leaves.
4. Spacing and Density
Proper spacing ensures adequate sunlight and airflow. For early crops, keep a spacing of 45x45 cm, and for main crops, 60x45 cm or 60x60 cm.
5. Integrated Nutrient Management
A balanced dose of NPK is essential. Generally, 120-150 kg Nitrogen, 80 kg Phosphorus, and 80 kg Potash per hectare is recommended. Apply half of Nitrogen and full Phosphorus and Potash at the time of transplanting.
